About Us
The tea plantation in Tripura was started in the latter part of 19th Century under the Royal Administration during the period of Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Bahadur (1909-1923). The Hirachara Tea Estate at Kailashahar, Unakoti Dist is the 1st Tea Garden in Tripura which was started in the year 1916. Tripura is currently the 5th largest tea producer state in India after West Bengal, Assam, Tamilnadu and Kerala.Total production of Made Tea in Tripura has varied between 8-9 million kgs last few years and around 10% of made tea of India have been produced in Tripura.
54 nos tea gardens are there in Tripura of the Govt. Sector, Pvt. Sector and Co-op. Sector and plantation area of the said 54 nos tea garden are 6700 Hactor out of the total gross area is around 12800 hactor, approx 45 milion kgs of green tea leaves has been produced in Tripura. Besides, 24 nos. Tea Processing Factory are there in Tripura and and approx 8-9 milion Kgs Made Tea has been produced in the said 24 nos factories annually vis-à-vis 2800 Nos. Small Tea growers are there in Tripura with covering of 1409 hector area of tea plantation and about 8.00 million kgs green leaves are produced by the small tea growers out of total 45 million (approx) produced in Tripura also there is 15000 nos of the people are directly or indirectly engaged in the Tea Industry for their daily livelihood.
MGNREGA:-
The MGNREGA have been undertaken in the various Dist. by the TTDC Ltd. from 2016-17 to 2020-21.
•Total area covered around 1109 acre
•The beneficiaries have been benefited 1032 Nos families.
FUTURE STRATEGY.
•Setting up of Tea Auction Centre in Tripura for providing marketing support to the tea growers of Tripura and Cachar region.
•Undertaking export of Tripura Tea in Bangladesh.
•Employment generation through raising tea plantation like Small Tea Growers.
•All the fallow land will be brought under tea cultivation (6100 acre area).
•All Tea Gardens of the state, nursery will be established to fullfill the vacant spaces.
